Hanging Rock Winery

Hanging Rock Winery was established in 1983 by the Ellis family and has grown to be the largest winery in the region.

The cellar door has a splendid vista overlooking Hanging Rock and offers over 20 wines covering most styles and varieties along with estate grown Hanging Rock Beef.

The property (known as ‘Jim Jim’) was purchased by John and Ann Ellis in 1982 as a bare block.Their aim was to make Australia’s best sparkling wine. Many who should know, believe that they have achieved this with their acclaimed Macedon NV Brut and Macedon NV Brut L.D. Whilst they decided to build the dream in the Macedon Ranges they have always had a love and affiliation with Heathcote as a Shiraz growing region.

In 1992 they, and then vineyard co-owner Athol Guy (of ‘ The Seekers’ fame), planted the ‘Athol’s Paddock’ Vineyard to produce the highly acclaimed ‘Heathcote Shiraz’. The goal of the Hanging Rock Winery has always been to select premium grapes from areas of Victoria best suited to the particular variety, as a result we have a wide range of wines to suit most styles and tastes.
